چکیده

This work focuses on the development and improvement of numerical tools for the simulation of catalytic monolith reactors. These simulations cover detailed descriptions of reaction mechanisms, transport in gas-phase and washcoats, fluid flow in single channels, and the entire reactor. In DETCHEM, the concept of building a transient model of the monolith reactor by the calculation of steady-state solutions of representative channels has been improved. Thus, simulations with inlet conditions varying in space and time become feasible. Furthermore, reactors with alternating channel properties can be considered. Another extension concerns storage catalysts that accounts for transient surface coverages of the storage medium. As example, three numerical studies are shown: a catalytic combustion device with alternating active and inactive channels, a catalytic combustion monolith with spatially varying inlet conditions, and a NOx storage catalyst with alternating inlet conditions. # 2005 Elsevier B.V. Towards a better understanding of transient processes in catalytic oxidation reactors

Light-off of the partial oxidation of methane to synthesis gas on a rhodiumcoated cordierite honeycomb monolith at short contact times is studied experimentally and numerically. The objective of this investigation is a better understanding of transient processes in catalytic oxidation reactors. The numerical simulation predicts the time-dependent solid-temperature distribution of the entire rea...

Monolith-based immobilized enzyme reactors: recent developments and applications for proteome analysis.

In the current proteome study, protein digestion is indispensable before proteins could be identified by MS/MS, no matter based on top-down or bottom-up strategies. Compared to the traditional digestion performed in free solution, immobilized enzyme shows great advantages in digestion speed, stability, and longevity, especially with monolithic materials as the supports. Besides the improved dig...

A New Approach for Inlet Diffuser of Automotive Catalytic Converter Considering Conversion Efficiency of Pollutants

The monolithic catalytic converter is still the main pollution control device for modern vehicles in order to reach the ever-increasing legislative demands for low emission standards. The catalytic converters require a large expansion from the exhaust pipe to the front face of the monolith. Unfortunately, packaging constraints often do not permit the use of long diffusers. Hence, flow separa...

Monolithic Three-way Palladium Catalytic Converters for Automobile Exhaust Emission Control

This article presents the research results on production and performance of palladium-only catalytic converters. Monolith is used as the catalyst carrier and gamma alumina as the substrate. Dipping method is used for monolith washcoating. Palladium as the active metal is impregnated on gamma alumina using wet impregnation to produce catalyst samples. The effects of factors such as percent solid...

Experimental Investigations of Cold Flow Mass Distribution and Pressure Drop Characteristics in a Structured Honeycomb Monolith Bed

The thermal flow reversal reactor (TFRR) and catalytic flow reversal reactor (CFRR) can utilize the ventilation air methane (VAM) from coal mines effectively. The initial cold feed flow mass distribution uniformity in the monolith oxidation bed, the critical part of both reactors, has a great influence on the stability of methane oxidation process and conversation rate. So the emphases are put ...
